AIR QUALITY GUIDE FOR PARTICLE POLLUTION

Particle Pollution, or PM 2.5, is a year round pollutant for Jefferson, Shelby and a small portion of Walker counties. Meteorologists use the color-coded chart below to forecast air quality, which are broadcast through the local media. Called the AQI (air quality guide), the chart indicates the particle pollution levels and the health impacts of each.

Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups

101-150

Air Quality Alert: People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.

Unhealthy

151-200

Air Quality Alert: People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion

Very Unhealthy

201-300

Air Quality Alert: People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should avoid all physical activity outdoors. Everyone else should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
